Meet Jimmy Morgan: A Journey from Hockey to Figure Skating
Jimmy Morgan's path to becoming a figure skating expert is as unique as it is inspiring. "I started figure skating by playing hockey, weirdly. I soon found out that I did not like the physical aspect of hockey, so I took a long break and started figure skating when I was 10 years old. Then, after going to Disney on Ice, and seeing how the performers filled the arena, commanding the attention of everyone, I knew that was the sport for me," Jimmy recalls.
His journey from being a die-hard competitor to a creative choreographer and movement coach showcases his passion and dedication to the sport. Jimmy is not only a former pairs figure skater, but also the 2023 Young Artists' Showcase Champion. He holds a Master rating in Theatre on Ice and is the Co-Vice President of American Ice Theatre, where he is certified in Master Choreography Techniques and 6 Ways of the Spine.
Jimmy's Proud Perspective Shift in Figure Skating
Jimmy's shift from competition to creativity and artistry in figure skating is a testament to his passion for the sport. "I am most proud of my perspective shift in figure skating. I used to be a die-hard competitor, but after years of competing, I realized that I didn't enjoy it as much as the beginning of the season when I was creating new programs and trying new tricks.”
“The thrill of the unknown and challenge is what hooked me, and once I realized that, I was able to let go of competition placement and focus on creativity and artistry, and I'm so proud to have made that shift. It's much more fun for me now!"
